Long time no see y’all.  I owe you an update soon.

For now, I wanted to let you know something pretty cool.  I wrote the lyrics to the theme song for a Korean film called “My Way” (directed by Kang Je Gyu, Starring Jang Dong Gun, Odagari Joe).  The song was composed by Dongjune Lee and was sung by none other than Andrea Bocelli.  The name of the song is called “To Find My Way” and is currently available as a bonus track on Bocelli’s newest release “Concerto: One Night In Central Park” (Asia Release).  It was such a thrill to work on the song and to be involved in such a way.  I’m humbled and honored to have had the opportunity.

It’s been a very long time since I’ve last blogged.  About 5 months ago I moved out to Seoul and so much has happened since I don’t really know where to begin.  I guess I’ll start with my Big Phony Korea compilation that released just a few weeks back.

“An Introduction of Big Phony” – a compilation consisting of songs from the first 3 Big Phony albums and bonus track, came out just a few weeks ago just for Korea.  Since I’m here in Seoul now, and nobody knows who I am, it was decided that the compilation be put out as an “introduction” to Big Phony music.  After about 3 weeks, people still don’t know who I am.  Haha.  That’s why I’ll be starting to play some shows this month and next both in Korea and in Japan.

Here’s the playlist and bonus track of “So You Know It Completely” written and performed by me and my amazing friend Wendy Wang (The Sweet Hurt).

Here are a few shots from the photoshoot for the album cover.  At first I insisted that my face not be shown on the album art but in the end we compromised and made it dark as possible.  haha.  Hope you like it.

SHOWS!

Next weekend (11/27/11) in Hongdae, in Seoul I’ll be a special guest for this acoustic set featuring my friends and rockers Galaxy Express and Yellow Monsters.  I’m really excited for this show as I’m a big fan of both bands.  Recently I saw them open for Linkin Park and they killed it.  We got buzzed back stage on beer and then after the show over soju and grilled pork.  Good times!  They’ve named the show “Wild Acoustic” and we’ll be playing at “Club Jess” in Hondgae.  For more info visit www.anotherplace.kr.  Here’s the flyer:

The next show after will take place in Itaewon (12/9-11).  3 nights of music with artists David Choi, Clara C, and myself at MMMG (Store and Lounge by Millimeter Milligram).  It’s gonna go like this.  First night (12/9) David Choi will headline and Clara C and I will be supporting acts.  Second night (12/10), Clara C takes the hotseat and David Choi and I will open.  Final night (12/11) I will have a full set and David and Clara will support.  I believe we might do some songs together and mix things up.  Please try and make it out all three nights!!

Here’s more info but it’s all in Korean!  I don’t understand most of it.

After the Itaewon shows I believe we’ll be playing some other cool gigs in Korea that week.  Possibly a TV gig, and also at Konjiam Ski Resort on 12/17.  More info on those shows to come.  Also, we’ll be hopping over to Japan to play a gig there on 12/16.  Again, I’ll find out more info soon!

I don’t want to bore you with anything more now.  There’s some really cool things I’ve worked on here in Seoul and can’t wait to share all of it with you.  I’ll let you know soon.  Big things to come, I promise!

Fun news!  Starting this week (11/15/11) I will be a weekly guest every Tuesday at 12:30PM on the TBS eFM show “K-Popular with As One” in Seoul, Korea, for their brand new season.  Listen online or on your smart devices!  I’ll be joining K-Pop artists Crystal & Min (aka “As One”) to discuss my K-pop song picks of the week.  Feel free to leave me suggestions to songs to review and discuss HERE AT BIGPHONYMUSIC.COM/KPOP or on my FACEBOOK or TWITTER pages.

Basically, I know very little about “K-Pop”.  Now that I live in Seoul, I think it’s about time that I get schooled on all there is to know about this rapidly growing culture.  I can’t think of a better way to do so.  As a musician and songwriter myself, I’m excited to expand my mind and study the similarities and differences between what I understand about music and a different side to it I know so little about.  Hope you can join me in my introduction to and education of K-POP!
